IN SHORT
  • We compared seven Tokyo hotels that publish baby information, from grand hotels to apartment hotels with kitchens, using their official pages.
  • Crib age limits ranged from about 10 months to 2 years, and only one hotel said its cribs are free, so ask with your baby's age.
  • For more space, look at Japanese-Western rooms, family rooms or apartment hotels; for formula, check who has a kettle, microwave or kitchen.

Looking for a Tokyo hotel with a baby can feel like a puzzle: the room needs space for a crib and a stroller, the beds need to work for a small child, and somewhere there needs to be hot water for formula at 3 am. If the room sizes surprise you, you’re not alone.

We went through the official pages of seven Tokyo hotels that publish baby and child information, from grand hotels to apartment hotels with kitchens, and put the details side by side.

What makes a Tokyo hotel easy with a baby?

These are the things we compared, and the ones we’d check for any hotel:

  • Room size in m², so there’s floor space for a crib and a stroller.
  • Bed width and number, if your child will share a bed.
  • Crib and bed guard rules: age limits, stock, and whether you can reserve.
  • Free co-sleeping age (soine).
  • Kettle, microwave or kitchen for formula and baby food.
  • Japanese-style or family rooms for more space.
  • Laundry, if you’re staying more than a few nights.

“Not stated” means we didn’t find it on the hotel’s official pages, so ask. Room examples are one room type each, not the only option.

What stands out:

  • Crib age limits vary from 10 months to 2 years. Imperial Hotel Tokyo and Keio Plaza lend cribs for babies up to about 10 months [7] [11], New Otani Tokyo under 18 months [1], and MIMARU and Sunshine City Prince up to 2 years [27] [17]. If your baby is around a year old, check this first.
  • Most hotels don’t publish a crib fee. Only MIMARU says its cribs are free [27]. Ask about the fee when you request one.
  • OMO hotels don’t lend cribs or bed guards, and extra bedding is charged even for children under 3 [25]. OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka’s beds are on a raised “yagura” platform [24], so think carefully before choosing it for a baby who rolls or crawls.

About bed guards. New Otani Tokyo lends bed guards for children aged 18 to 60 months [1]. Imperial Hotel Tokyo, Keio Plaza and Sunshine City Prince lend them too but don’t state an age [7] [11] [17]. MIMARU says its bed guards have an age limit, so ask [27]. Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency says toddler bed guards attached to adult beds should not be used for babies under 18 months [31]. For where your baby should sleep, see our guide to cribs, futons and twin beds, and talk to your pediatrician.

Which hotels have Japanese-style or family rooms?

Two western-style beds set on a tatami floor in a Japanese-style hotel room, with shoji screens open onto a balcony and green trees outside.

If you’re a family of four or five, or you’d rather have a futon floor than high beds, these rooms are worth a look:

Microwaves, kettles and bottle prep

Of the seven hotels, two mention a microwave in the room: MIMARU, and Citadines in its kitchenettes. Here’s what they say:

  • A full kitchen: MIMARU Tokyo Ueno North has a kitchen in every room, with an IH cooktop, microwave, kettle, fridge and cookware [28].
  • A kitchenette: Citadines Shinjuku’s FAQ says its kitchenettes have a microwave, but individual room pages don’t list one, so check your room type [29] [30].
  • A shared microwave: OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka lists a shared microwave among its facilities [23].
  • Hot water brought to you: at New Otani Tokyo, staff bring hot water free on request, and room service will warm commercially prepared baby food [1]. At Imperial Hotel Tokyo, hot water for formula is free from the room’s pot or from room service [7].
  • A baby plan: Keio Plaza’s “Baby Happy Plan” for children under 3 includes a baby bath with a thermometer, a formula maker and a bottle sterilizing set, in rooms whose bathroom has a separate washing area [11].

How to prepare formula safely is a question for your pediatrician, especially with water away from home.

Our picks by situation

These are our opinions, based only on what the hotels publish, not reviews or stays.

  • If we had a baby under 6 months and wanted a classic hotel, we’d look first at New Otani Tokyo or Imperial Hotel Tokyo. Both lend cribs (check the age limit), and both bring hot water for formula for free [1] [7].
  • If we had a 1-year-old, we’d check the crib age carefully, and look at Sunshine City Prince or MIMARU, whose cribs go up to age 2 [17] [27].
  • If we wanted a tatami floor in the city, Sunshine City Prince’s 75 m² Japanese-Western room has a tatami area plus beds [20]. Ask whether futons are provided.
  • If we needed a kitchen and a washing machine nearby for a long stay, MIMARU Tokyo Ueno North has a kitchen in every room and 24-hour coin laundry [28] [27].
  • If we had a 7- to 12-year-old as well, New Otani Tokyo’s free co-sleeping up to age 12 in The Main and Garden Tower could save money [1].

Before you book: a checklist

  • How many m² is the room? Is there floor space for a crib and a stroller?
  • What age is the crib for, how many are there, and is there a fee?
  • What’s the free co-sleeping age, and how many children can co-sleep?
  • Is there a kettle, microwave or kitchen? Will staff bring hot water?
  • Is there a Japanese-style or family room?
  • Is there coin laundry or a laundry service?

Questions parents ask

How big are Tokyo hotel rooms?
It depends on the hotel and room type. In our comparison, example rooms ranged from 29.3 m² (a twin room at Sunshine City Prince Hotel) to 50 m² (a three-bed apartment at Citadines Shinjuku), and family rooms go up to 75 m² or more. Check the m² on the official room page.
Do Tokyo hotels have cribs?
Five of the seven hotels we checked lend cribs with a stated age limit, from about 10 months to 2 years. Citadines Shinjuku takes crib requests subject to confirmation, and OMO hotels don't lend cribs. Stock is often limited, so request one when you book.
Are apartment hotels a good option with a baby?
They can be, especially for longer stays. MIMARU Tokyo Ueno North, for example, has a kitchen with a microwave in every room and 24-hour coin laundry.
