Renting Baby Gear in Japan: Rental Companies vs. Hotel Loans

This page contains affiliate links. If you book through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. How this works
- For things you use in the room, like a crib, bed guard or diaper bin, the hotels we checked lend them. Two of the six say these items are free; the others don't give a fee. Stock is limited and the rules differ, so ask when you book.
- For a stroller or car seat for the whole trip, Japanese rental companies are an option, but check how you get it. Nice Baby does not deliver to hotels or airports, Babyrenta delivers to hotels but not airports, and StrollerTrip brings strollers to Tokyo hotels and airport counters.
- Narita and Haneda lend strollers for use inside the airport, and Tokyo Disney Resort rents strollers for 1,000 yen a day to children 7 months and older.
Packing for Japan with a baby can feel like moving house. The stroller, the travel cot, the car seat, the bag of bottles: by the time it’s all by the door, you’re wondering how you’ll get it through two airports and a train station.
The good news is that you may not need to carry all of it. Some things can be borrowed from your hotel, some can be rented, and some can be picked up at the airport or theme park. We went through the official pages of rental companies, hotels, airports and Japan’s police to see what actually works for visitors, and where the catches are.
What can you rent or borrow, and from whom?
There are three places to look, and they suit different things:
- Your hotel. Many hotels lend items you use in the room: a crib, a bed guard, a diaper bin, sometimes a baby bath. Rules and stock differ by hotel.
- A baby gear rental company. Japanese companies rent strollers, cribs and child seats for a few days or longer, delivered by courier or by staff.
- Airports and theme parks. Narita, Haneda and Tokyo Disney Resort lend or rent strollers on the day, mostly for use on site.
One thing to know up front: Japan’s big baby rental companies are mostly set up for families who live in Japan. For example, Babyrenta mentions sending items to a travel destination or to a family home for a visit to grandparents (satogaeri, 里帰り, when a parent goes back to their family home, often around a birth) [4]. Nice Baby recommends delivery to a home or parents’ home [1]. Their websites are in Japanese, so your browser’s translate function will be your friend.
Which baby gear rental companies deliver, and what do they cost?
We compared three companies whose official pages list prices and delivery rules. Prices are in yen, as shown on each company’s site in November 2026.
| Company | English page | Example items and prices (yen, November 2026) | Pickup and return | Shipping | Shortest period | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nice Baby (ナイスベビー) | None found | 2 weeks: Aprica Viit B-type stroller 7,260; Amiri Patanto 100 folding compact crib 6,100 (tax incl.); Nihon Ikuji Travel Best EC Plus child seat (seat-belt installed, about 1 to 4 years) 2,200. Tax status of the stroller and seat prices not stated | Delivered to a home address by Sagawa courier or Nice Baby's own van. Does not deliver to hotels or airports, or to Okinawa and remote islands. Free Sagawa pickup for returns | Sagawa round trip 1,540 to 2,860 (Area 1, incl. Kanto and Kansai) or 1,980 to 6,600 (Area 2) by box size. Own van (in its own delivery area only): free for orders of 8,801 or more (tax incl.), otherwise 770 | 2 weeks | [1] [2] [3] |
| Babyrenta (ベビレンタ) | None found | Tax incl., as shown on 4 Nov 2026 (price depends on new/used and color): Aprica Viit AB B-type stroller 4,360 for 3 days, 5,280 for 7 days; I LOVE BABY lightweight child seat 6,520 for 7 days; nuna PAAL compact crib from 22,550 for 14 days (new) | Sagawa courier to hotels and ryokan (tell the hotel in advance) or held at a Sagawa depot; return from where you stay. No delivery to airports, Okinawa, remote islands or overseas | Not stated on product pages (shown in the cart) | 3 days | [4] [5] [6] [7] |
| StrollerTrip (with Combi) | Yes | Combi strollers only, tax incl.: 7,700 or 11,000 for 3 nights/4 days, then 2,200 or 3,300 per extra day. For 7 days (6 nights), our calculation: 14,300 or 20,900 | Staff deliver to your hotel in Tokyo (the front desk can hold it), a shop in Akihabara, or JAL ABC counters at Narita T1 and T2 and Haneda T3 | One way, tax incl.: Chiyoda, Chuo, Taito, Bunkyo 4,400; Shinjuku 7,700; Shibuya 8,250; Haneda 6,600; Narita 16,500. JAL counter pickup fee: Not stated | Prices start at 3 nights/4 days; shorter: Not stated | [9] [10] [11] |
“B-type” (B型, B-gata) is a Japanese stroller category you’ll see on rental and shop pages. The B-type strollers in this article are listed from about 6 or 7 months [5] [25], so check the age on the listing if your baby is younger.
Nice Baby: home delivery only
Nice Baby clearly says it does not deliver to hotels or to airports, and it doesn’t deliver to Okinawa or remote islands either [1]. Unless you are staying at a private home in Japan, such as with friends or family, it is hard to use as a visitor.
If you do have a home address to use: the listings we checked start at 2 weeks [3], you can book from 90 days before the delivery date, and in-stock items arrive 2 to 3 business days after ordering at the earliest [1]. With Sagawa courier delivery, you assemble the items yourself and pack them up for the return, and Nice Baby can arrange a free Sagawa pickup. With its own van, staff assemble the items [2]. A 2-week rental can’t be canceled once it has shipped [2]. The crib listing says its prices include tax, but the stroller and child seat listings mark only the extension fee as tax-included, so we’ve listed those two as “tax status not stated” [3].
Babyrenta: delivers to hotels, not airports
Babyrenta rents from 3 days and can deliver the next morning at the earliest. It says orders placed by 10:00 can ship the same day, depending on region and weather [4] [5]. It can deliver to hotels and ryokan (traditional inns) as long as you tell the hotel in advance, and you can send the return from where you’re staying [5]. Keep the delivery box, because you use it for the return [4].
The catch is timing. If your first night is at an airport hotel or you want the stroller on landing, Babyrenta can’t help, because it doesn’t deliver to airports [5].
Cancellation has a schedule. It’s free up to 7 business days before the delivery date, 50% from 6 to 4 business days before, and 80% from 3 business days before until the shipping email. After the shipping email you pay 100%, shipping included. Business days don’t include weekends or Japanese public holidays [8]. The product pages show prices as tax-included, but the company’s legal notice page also lists consumption tax as an extra charge, so check the final total at checkout [5] [8]. Payment methods listed include Amazon Pay and credit card [8]. Whether a card issued outside Japan works is not stated, so try it before you count on it.
StrollerTrip: strollers to your Tokyo hotel or the airport
StrollerTrip rents Combi strollers in Tokyo and has an English page [9]. Staff deliver between 11:00 and 16:00. If your hotel will hold the stroller at the front desk, it can arrive the day before you check in. You contact the hotel yourself [9]. You can also pick up at JAL ABC baggage counters at Narita Terminals 1 and 2 and Haneda Terminal 3 [11].
Its official prices are for 3 nights/4 days plus a daily rate after that, so the 7-day figures in the table are our own calculation from those numbers [9]. Delivery fees are listed one way, and they add up: 16,500 yen one way to Narita, for example [10]. The page says fees may be revised, so confirm the fee when you book [10].
Book by the day before (same day by phone). Bring your passport as ID, and you pay in cash or by card on delivery [9] [12]. A rain cover is free if you ask when you book, cancellation is free until the day before, and damage is charged at cost [12].
The site’s copyright notice says 2018 [9]. Before you plan around it, send a message and check that it’s still taking bookings.
What do Japanese hotels lend for free?
For things you use in the room, the hotel is often the easiest place to start. Here is what six hotels list on their official Japanese pages. We cover cribs and sleep in more detail in our guide to baby sleeping arrangements in Japanese hotels.
| Hotel | Crib | Other baby items | Fee | Booking ahead | Stroller loan | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hilton Tokyo Bay (Maihama) | Up to 24 months | Bed guard (18 to 60 months; not in some rooms) | Free | Limited; reserve in advance | No | [13] |
| 1955 Tokyo Bay by Hoshino Resorts (Maihama) | Yes; some room types can't take one | Bed guard, baby bath, formula pot, bottle sterilizing case | Free | Limited; can't be reserved in advance | Not stated | [14] |
| Hotel New Otani Tokyo (Akasaka) | Under 18 months only | Bed guard (18 to 60 months), diaper bin, toilet seat | Not stated | Limited; ask in advance | No | [15] |
| Sunshine City Prince Hotel (Ikebukuro) | Two sizes: under 10 months and not yet standing, or under 2 years; not in some rooms | Bed guard | Not stated | Limited; ask in advance | Not stated | [16] |
| Hotel New Otani Makuhari (Chiba) | Under 1 year and not yet pulling up to stand; not in some room types | Bed guard, diaper bin, toilet seat, step stool, play mat | Not stated | Limited; ask in advance | Not stated | [17] |
| The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji | Yes | Diaper bin, toilet seat, formula pot, step stool | Not stated | Limited; how to book not stated | Not stated | [18] |
What stands out:
- “Not stated” doesn’t mean “no” or “free.” Four of the six don’t give a fee on the page. Ask, and keep the reply.
- Strollers are a different story. Hilton Tokyo Bay and Hotel New Otani Tokyo say plainly that they don’t lend strollers [13] [15]. The other four pages don’t mention lending one. Don’t count on the hotel for one; ask, and have a plan B.
- Stock is limited, and one hotel won’t hold items. 1955 Tokyo Bay lends a lot for free but doesn’t reserve anything ahead [14]. Elsewhere, ask as soon as you book.
- Bring your own diapers. The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji says guests should bring diapers, with a few kept only for emergencies [18].
- Bed guards come with age limits. Some hotels give an age range for bed guards on adult beds, often starting at 18 months. Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency says this kind of bed guard should never be used for babies under 18 months [13] [19].
Most of these hotels ask you to request items in advance [13] [15] [16] [17]. It helps the staff have the room ready.
Can you borrow a stroller at the airport or a theme park?
Yes, at the places below. Most are for use on site only, so they won’t replace a stroller for the whole trip.
| Where | Fee | Who it's for | Where to get it | Use outside | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Narita Airport | Free | Not stated | Information counters in the terminals; arriving passengers from after immigration. Return to a nearby information counter | Not stated | [20] |
| Haneda Airport (in-airport strollers) | Not stated on the page | Back-facing: 2 months to 4 years. Face-facing: 4 months to 3 years. Neither lies fully flat | T1 and T2: 2F general area. T3: entrance plaza, arrivals lobby, departures lobby and after passport control | No (inside the airport) | [21] [23] |
| Haneda Airport (paid strollers) | Not stated on the page | Not stated | T1 and T2, 1F near arrivals, 10:00 to 18:00. Not at T3 | Yes | [22] |
| Babycal stroller sharing (e.g. Tokyo Monorail, Haneda Airport Terminal 1 Station) | 250 to 500 for the first hour, then 150 per 30 min; 2,000 cap per 12 hours. Tax status not stated | Depends on model, e.g. 1 month to 4 years (up to 18 kg) or 7 to 48 months (up to 18 kg) | Station stands; the Haneda stand is by the ticket machines at the north exit | Yes, up to 7 days; return where you rented it | [24] [23] |
| Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea | 1,000 per day | 7 months and older, able to sit up alone, up to 100 cm and 15 kg | Land: World Bazaar. Sea: Park Entrance and Fantasy Springs Park Information | No (inside the parks) | [25] |
Narita lends strollers free at its information counters, and if you’re arriving, you can use one from after immigration [20]. The page doesn’t say whether you can take one outside the airport.
Haneda has two kinds. In-airport strollers are spread across all three terminals [21]. Its FAQ says the back-facing type suits 2 months to 4 years and the face-facing type 4 months to 3 years, and neither reclines all the way flat [23]. For use outside the airport, Terminals 1 and 2 have paid strollers at 1F near arrivals from 10:00 to 18:00. Terminal 3 doesn’t. Terminal 1 takes inquiries by phone in Japanese only, or by email in other languages. Terminal 2 books through an outside booking site, and the service there runs from 15 June to 31 December 2026 [22]. The airport page doesn’t give a fee for either kind.
Babycal is a stroller-sharing service at stations, and Haneda’s FAQ points to its stand at the north exit of the Tokyo Monorail’s Haneda Airport Terminal 1 Station [23]. It’s built for short trips, not a whole holiday. You must return the stroller where you rented it, and hotel or station staff can’t return it for you. Late returns cost 500 yen per 15 minutes. You need to register on both the website and the app, and only credit cards with 3D Secure work (no debit or prepaid cards). The site is in Japanese [24].
Tokyo Disney Resort rents hooded, reclining B-type strollers for 1,000 yen a day. They’re only for children 7 months and older who can sit up on their own, up to 100 cm tall and 15 kg [25]. If your baby is younger, bring your own stroller or a carrier. You return it at either park’s rental counter within the rental period, and stroller rain gear is sold in park shops [25]. Rent or bring? A quick decision guide

This is our view, based on the rules above. Your baby, your route and your budget may point another way.
| Item | Ask the hotel | Rental company | Bring your own |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crib | First choice if the hotel lends one for your baby's age and room type | If the hotel can't, and you stay in one place for a while (Babyrenta delivers to hotels) | A travel cot, if you've checked with the hotel that it fits |
| Stroller | Don't count on it (two hotels say no; the others don't mention it) | Good for a Tokyo stay, especially with delivery to your hotel or airport pickup | If your baby is under about 7 months, or you'll move between cities a lot |
| Car seat | Not listed by the hotels we checked | Only if you'll be in a car a lot; the two companies with car seats don't deliver to airports | If you plan to drive, or want your own seat for taxis |
| Bed guard, diaper bin, baby bath | Yes, where listed (check age limits) | Usually not worth shipping | Rarely needed |
If we were booking for a 10-month-old staying a week in Tokyo, we’d ask the hotel for a crib and diaper bin, and look at a stroller delivered to the hotel or picked up at the airport. For a 4-month-old, we’d lean toward bringing our own stroller or a carrier, since several of the B-type rentals start at 7 months. Our stroller or baby carrier guide compares travel strollers if you’re bringing one.
Do you need a car seat in Japan?
If you’ll be in a private or rental car, yes. Under Japan’s Road Traffic Act, a driver must use a child seat for a child under 6 [26]. Japan’s National Police Agency also recommends a child seat for children 6 and older who can’t wear a seat belt properly because of their size [26].
There are exemptions. The Kanagawa Prefectural Police, explaining the national rule, list them. They include drivers of taxis and buses carrying a child as a passenger, seats where a child seat can’t be fitted, a child being fed or cared for by someone other than the driver, medical reasons, and emergencies [27]. Breaking the rule costs the driver 1 penalty point, with no fine [27].
So a taxi driver isn’t required to use a child seat for a child passenger. If you’d like your child in one in a taxi, you’d need to bring or rent your own and ask whether it can be fitted in that car. Whether and how to use a child seat for your child is your call. Read your own country’s guidance and the maker’s instructions, and talk to your pediatrician if you have questions about your child.
How do you book? Copy-and-paste messages
To a rental company. Babyrenta and Nice Baby’s sites are in Japanese and StrollerTrip has an English page. A short message in both languages helps. Send it before you pay, so you get answers about delivery first.

A Japanese line you can add:
海外から赤ちゃん(〇か月)と旅行します。ホテルへの配送と返却ができるか、送料と税込の合計金額を教えてください。
(“We’re traveling from overseas with a baby [age] months old. Please tell us whether you can deliver to and collect from the hotel, and the total including shipping and tax.”) Replace 〇 with your baby’s age in months.
To your hotel. Rental companies ask you to tell the hotel yourself [5] [9]. Hotels differ on whether they hold guest parcels, so ask first:
Subject: Package for a guest – [your name], check-in [date]

In Japanese:
〇月〇日に、ベビー用品レンタル会社から私(予約名:〇〇)宛ての荷物が届きます。チェックインまでフロントでお預かりいただけますか。
(“A package from a baby gear rental company will arrive on [date] addressed to me (reservation name [name]). Could the front desk hold it until check-in?”)
At the front desk when you return it, you can say:
レンタルの返却の荷物です。集荷まで預かっていただけますか。
Rentaru no henkyaku no nimotsu desu. Shūka made azukatte itadakemasu ka? (“This is a rental return. Could you hold it until the courier collects it?”)
Before you book: a quick checklist
Rental company
- Does it deliver to your hotel? To the airport? (Nice Baby: neither. Babyrenta: hotel only.)
- What’s the shortest period, and how is a week priced?
- What’s the total with shipping and tax?
- What are the age and weight limits for the stroller or seat?
- What’s the cancellation deadline, counted in business days?
- Does your card work?
Hotel
- Which baby items do they lend, for what ages, and is there a fee?
- Can they be reserved, or only requested at check-in?
- Will the front desk hold a rental delivery and hand a return to the courier?
Airport and park
- Is your baby old enough for the loan stroller (Haneda: from 2 or 4 months by type; Tokyo Disney Resort: 7 months and sitting up)?
- Is the stroller only for use inside the airport or park?
Questions parents ask
- Do rental strollers in Japan come with a rain cover?
- It depends on the company. StrollerTrip says it lends a rain cover free if you ask when you book, while Nice Baby sells it as a paid option (2,750 yen on the listing we checked). Tokyo Disney Resort sells stroller rain gear in park shops. Ask when you book.
- Can I rent a car seat for a taxi?
- Japanese law requires a child seat for children under 6 in a car, but taxi and bus drivers carrying a child passenger are exempt, according to the Kanagawa Prefectural Police. If you want your child in a car seat in a taxi, you'd need to bring or rent one. Of the companies we checked, the two that rent car seats deliver to addresses in Japan (one of them to hotels), not to airports.
- Can rental companies deliver to the airport?
- Of the three we checked, only StrollerTrip offers airport handover: delivery to Haneda or Narita for a fee, or pickup at JAL ABC counters at Narita Terminals 1 and 2 and Haneda Terminal 3. Nice Baby and Babyrenta both say they don't deliver to airports.
- Do I need to pay a deposit?
- None of the three companies we checked mention a deposit on the pages we read. StrollerTrip asks to see photo ID, and Babyrenta offers paid damage cover as an option. Ask before you book.
